Peter Lightowler – Funeral & Cancer Charity Fund
Donation protected
We are heartbroken to share that Peter Lightowler sadly passed away on 13th May 2025 after a courageous battle with bowel cancer.
Peter’s journey began in September 2022 when he was first diagnosed with bowel cancer. Later scans showed the cancer had spread to his liver, with small spots also appearing on his lungs, which doctors initially monitored. Peter underwent multiple rounds of IV chemotherapy, which made him very sick, before being switched to chemo tablets due to an allergic reaction.
Despite plans for liver surgery and discussions about radiotherapy, Peter was instead referred for right lung surgery. A later date for liver surgery was overtaken when Peter was rushed into A&E for emergency bowel surgery, resulting in a stoma.
After recovering, Peter continued on chemo tablets. Sadly, after a period, they were no longer effective, and Peter was referred for clinical trials. While waiting to hear about an appointment, Peter became unwell again and was admitted to A&E in severe pain. Sadly, due to pressures on the system, he spent hours waiting without being seen and was turned away as there were no beds available—one of many heartbreaking setbacks during his fight.
Shortly after, an appointment was confirmed for 21st May 2025 for a clinical trial. Tragically, Peter never made it to that appointment, as his body could no longer keep fighting.
Peter faced endless appointments, treatments, and setbacks, all of which took a huge toll on his physical wellbeing. Yet through it all, he showed incredible courage and resilience.
We are raising funds to help with Peter’s funeral and to support two charities close to his heart—Bowel Cancer UK and World Cancer Research Fund. Donations will be split as follows:
• 60% towards Peter’s funeral
• 20% to Bowel Cancer UK
• 20% to World Cancer Research Fund
We will handle the donations personally and will also share confirmation of the charity donations.
Peter’s funeral will have a Leicester City Football Club theme to celebrate his lifelong love for his team. In his honor, we invite anyone attending to wear a Leicester City shirt or Leicester City blue if they wish.
We will post the date and time once this has been confirmed.
Thank you for your support in helping us honour Peter’s memory.
With love and gratitude,
