Peter J Dunkerley

On December 19,  2016 Peter Dunkerley passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on his front porch. Secia, his wife and best friend, had just left for work and his sons, who had travelled from New Hampshire to visit their Grammy (Peter’s mom), ran out for a quick errand not knowing it would be the last time they’d hug their dad.

Pete was disabled and lived in pain for most of his adult life. Even though finances were tight, he and Secia decided to assume guardianship of three beautiful children, fondly referred to all of the family as “the littles.” Peter, Secia, and the littles recently moved to South Carolina to be closer to family.

 Peter's mom has been battling cancer for the past four years and shortly after the move she began receiving end of life care at home. It is a blessing in disguise that his brothers and sisters, his four children, and extended family had recently made the journey to visit her. Although Peter’s passing was unexpected, and made that much more difficult by the holiday season and the impending loss of the family matriarch, he was able to give everyone those great big hugs he is famous for. 

 Although Peter left a legacy of love, there was no insurance and no cash reserves to cover funeral expenses.  Additionally, the family will struggle further with loss of Peter’s disability supplement.
