My name is Alex, and I am Pete’s mom. I adopted Pete when he was four years old, and he has humbled me ever since he came into my life.
I named him Pete after the beloved children’s book character, Pete the Cat. He has the funniest personality, and loves anyone he meets. Pete has been on a long journey. He was abandoned behind a shelter as a kitten, taken in, and not chosen for a home until he was four. He was diagnosed with IBD when he was five, and diagnosed with a heart murmur at 6. Pete is one of the most loving and strong creatures I’ve ever met, and he is my best friend.
While Pete has had his IBD symptoms managed, I have fought financially to get him through medication trials, steroids, fluid injections, fevers of unknown origin, and countless other treatments to give him the best chance I ever could at giving him the most loving life.
Starting in July 2025, Pete was diagnosed with cystitis, inflammation of the bladder. Although it is a waiting game with really no treatment other than pain management, he seemed to overcome it with a food change. On Sunday 08/17, everything changed.
He had the most wonderful active and chatty three weeks when we thought he fully recovered from cystitis. But I came downstairs on Sunday morning to him being completely frozen. He was twitching, and cried and couldn’t use the bathroom. I made the emergency appointment, and got in immediately.
Pete has experienced a blockage of his urethra. I know this sounds ugly, and it is. Without his appointment, he would’ve died within 24 hours. After multiple doctors attempted to unblock him, they released the large stone, and began the catheter process.
Because of Pete’s heart murmur, he cannot be administered fluids quickly. His hospital stay is estimated to be 24-72 hours. He is currently on IV fluids and has had a catheter replaced. He is now in rough condition, but steadily making improvements under 24 hour care.
For me, losing Pete would mean losing a part of myself. He has been there for so many major moments in my life, and he has been my greatest comfort, next to music. Now, he is 10 years old, and I am hoping and praying that he has more time, so we can continue to pour our love into him.
I am requesting support from the community to help with his hospital expenses. Anything donated is profoundly appreciated during this extremely difficult time. Thank you for reading this far, it truly means the world to me, and I hope it can make a difference in Pete’s life.
