Pet Refuge:Vet emergencies and special needs Brock
Friends, we are so grateful for our generous supporters, and today we have come to you again for help. All monies raised from this appeal will go to medical care even if we exceed our goal (there are always medical needs). We have had four urgent medical situations with our cats just in the past couple of weeks. Sweet senior Jerret (who unfortunately passed) had to be rushed to Ocean State for emergency care. Andrea, one of our first semi-feral rescues who was 17 years old, had to be brought to Ocean State and unfortunately was euthanized when it was determined that she had oral cancer. Brock (pictured) is going to need some expensive specialty diagnostic procedures for his ongoing intestinal issues. Andrea and Jerret were well-known and were greatly loved. Brock is new to us but is loved by the staff and volunteers. We also had a sweet kitten, Galaxy, who had a severe intestinal problem and after several days at Ocean State receiving intense treatment, she was still doing very poorly -so we had to let her go in peace. As you know, due to pandemic restrictions, we have had to limit fundraising activities. Veterinary emergencies come when they come and can often be very expensive. In addition, some veterinary clinics are routing many of their cases to Ocean State due to lack of capacity at their facilities.
As a no-kill shelter, we provide medical care for all of our cats. We do not euthanize cats because of space limitations or because of their age or because they develop an illness or medical condition. We treat them and give every cat the best quality of life possible and only do veterinarian guided medically necessary euthanasia when quality of life is poor.
We have spent quite a bit of our limited funds over the past couple of weeks to try to help these precious cats, and although some of them did not survive, we try to save them as we always do. We are currently trying to replenish our medical funds so that when other cats in our care get sick, we can give them the same chance. We also are planning to get specialty care for Brock so he can get better and be adopted.
We do have a donation match for Brock. An anonymous donor has pledged to match the first $500 for Brock’s ongoing medical care via a check delivered to the shelter!
So please donate to this effort if you are able and please share this so that others may be able to contribute- Thank you and Please watch for updates on Brock!
