Madeira Friends is a non-profit association that connects the dots between locals and internationals. Giving back is at the heart of what we do. You've seen us doing things like tree planting, beach cleanups, volunteering at homeless shelters, helping the animals, going to schools, and other initiatives. We are also committed to making a difference during Christmas!
In 2021, we hosted a community toy drive to benefit two local child institutions. In 2022, a book collection drive brought the gift of reading to children, teens, and seniors across three institutions. In 2023, PlayStations and video games were donated to Acreditar, an association supporting children and families with cancer.
This Christmas we are collecting pet food & other items for animals. The goal is to bring comfort and joy to rescued animals who have had a “ruff” time. Your kindness will bring sweet treats and fun toys to animals patiently waiting for their forever homes. Every contribution shows these deserving pets that they are loved, valued, and not forgotten.
Why It Matters:
Year-round, rescue organizations and local shelters work tirelessly to save hundreds of animals, ensuring their well-being despite their limited resources. Food, medical care, and daily essentials often leave little room for extras like toys and treats. That’s where we step in! We can help by providing gifts that will brighten an animal's day with toys, treats, and cozy blankets and of course, support the incredible staff and volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes.
What’s Needed:
Pet food, toys, plastic beds, pâtés, brushes, scratching cat posts, leashes, treats, and gently used blankets.

About us
Madeira Friends is a Portuguese registered non-profit #516898787 with a track record of giving back and helping local charities like animals, kids, and many others.
Madeira Friends connects locals and internationals in Madeira. Founded by Marelin and Luis, with a growing international community on the island, giving back is at the core of everything they do, and over the last few years, they’ve been involved in many activities and social initiatives. In 2024 they have already hosted 350+ events and 11.000+ people have attended. They are digital nomads, remote workers, expats, and locals. Besides all the day-to-day work onboarding digital nomads and remote workers, Madeira Friends aims to give a greater purpose and continuity to the digital nomads program started in the region by the local government. They believe the digital economy allows Madeira to develop without the traditional setbacks or geographical obstacles and see a huge potential in sharing knowledge, digital skills, and opportunities with the locals, for example in schools. Madeira Friends was created to integrate this new community on the island and have a positive impact through different programs, from networking to skill sharing, well-being to sustainability, promoting a true social and inclusive integration with the locals.
