Above is a recent picture of a Peruvian woman, who together with her husband and their animals was suddenly swept away by a mudslide in Peru; her husband was able to escape early on, while she was carried by the mudflow for about one kilometer to miracurously survive and later be rescued.  Disastrous mudslides like this one, as well as heavy flooding (see video) are now affecting many areas of Peru with over 80 people confirmed dead, more than 72,000 people who have lost all their possessions and another 500,000 people affected. 

The Peruvian Canadian Cultural Association (ACULPECA) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is conducting a fundraiser and coordinating with Development and Peace - Caritas Canada (DPCC) to help those affected by the natural disasters in Peru. I live in Edmonton and I have started this campaign to further contribute to our fundraising efforts at ACULPECA, with all collected funds being handed to DPCC.

DPCC is the official international development organization of the Canadian Catholic Church and a member of Caritas Internationalis;  they will use the collected funds to initially take part in emergency relief efforts and then for long term reconstruction work in response to the natural disasters and developing humanitarian crisis currently affecting Peru.

The rains have not abated in Peru and the number of affected people is growing on a daily basis, therefore the need for immediate relief as well as help with rebuilding is great and urgent.  I ask for your help and count on your graceful benevolence to share with those in need.
