We are Super-8-Auteur a fresh production company made up of Graduates from The University of Chichester. We aim to explore with our audiences the world they live in and how far we have come. this year (2024) we have our goal of taking our production to Edinburgh Fringe Festival and show a fresh audience our piece, 'Persistent Shadows'. In order to take our show on the road requires costs such. equipment hire, licenses etc... Any help with such costs would be grateful and of course put to extremely good use. we have secured a venue which is already a big step and we can't wait to take more in the right direction.
As a company we have faith in our show and want to work as hard as we can to spread our message and live our dreams of performing. with help from you we can make that happen!
The piece is set in Britain in the 1980s, during the tenure of Margaret Thatcher. It follows the stories of five characters who all grew up in a mining village in East Kent. As they each go their separate ways, the trials which they encounter affect their tales differently. Our work branches out to depict many of the key social and political movements which affect our characters' stories as they find different ways to adapt in the uncertain times. The piece bookends with the acid house rave scene which emerged at the end of the decade.
Our piece follows an abstract episodic linear narrative. "The Leather Bottle, a worn down pub, with torn up carpets, peeling wallpapers, and chairs that look like they'd fall apart if you stared at them hard enough. A thick cloud of cigarette smoke lingers in the air, you get used to it. But the Leather Bottle was a place of community for the people of Betteshanger, an escape from the chaos of the world outside." join the five friends on their journey through the 1980s. Our audience are plunged into the heart of the acid house rave scene, lowered into the mines of East Kent, and shipped out to sea to fight in the Falklands. At the centre of our work hangs an old rusty lantern, a symbol of hope which the characters follow. The work is highly energetic, fast paced and frequently utilises physical theatre to interweave the shifts in atmosphere and setting. Music plays a very important role in the work, in creating atmosphere, showing shifts in time, offering juxtaposition to scenes through the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound, and highlighting the cultural rebellion which was the acid house rave scene.
