Hello friends of Per,
It has been almost 3.5 years since we launched our first GoFundMe campaign in support of our dear friend Per. We were blown away by the support of his family, friends, and community. The money raised went a long way in helping him move from the hospital, into rehabilitation facilities and ultimately back home. With the help of Per's brother Mons, he was able to use some of the funds to make important modifications to his home’s entryway to accommodate his wheelchair. Per knew it would be an uphill battle to one day walk again, but he never relented and pushes himself daily with rehab, while also learning to live his life in a wheelchair. Your support has made this possible and allowed him to focus on healing and adjusting to his new reality.
The past few months of Per’s journey have been among the most challenging. Per, now on his own, continues rehab and has seen many gains in navigating his environment and becoming as independent as he is able. He has come to terms with the fact that, despite his hard work, the chances of him walking again are slim. He has been adjusting his vision for what his future holds because of this, and his new solo life. These circumstances have Per in a challenging place, and he once again needs our help to forge a path toward his future.
We are launching this new fundraising campaign to raise funds for Per to be able to stay in his current home, which has been adapted to fit his needs, and to support any ongoing costs for physical and occupational therapy. Per has been actively exploring programs and employment opportunities to provide ongoing funds and support for himself, but he needs help in the short term to provide him the time he needs to develop a long term work and care plan.
We understand that it’s a challenging time for many right now, and it may not be the right time for you to lend support financially. In addition to funds, Per also needs direct support in a variety of ways. If you live in NYC and would prefer to provide in person support, please let us know and we’d be happy to help arrange it. If you have any connections to resources that could help him with this transition (life or work), especially remote job opportunities, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are able to provide a financial donation, please know that it will go a long way in helping our friend feel loved, supported, and give him the peace to be able to face the challenges ahead with less uncertainty, and less stress.
We’ll provide updates here to let you know about Per’s progress, and how your donation is helping. Thanks again for your generosity.
