A few days ago the TalkWeather.com community lost one of it's own. Perry Williams, also known as PerryW, was a dedicated member of the forum who had a knack for being a self-taught walking encyclopedia of weather knowledge.
We at TalkWeather want to honor our friend's legacy and passion for weather knowledge by establishing the "Perry Williams Memorial Weather Station at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center" in Huntsville, Alabama.
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is home of Space Camp and welcomes thousands of children to their STEM programs each year. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center Education Department will use the weather station to educate children about weather with hands on activities explaining the tools of a meteorologist and the data they collect to help forecast the weather.
Our $500 budget includes the following:
1 - Ambient Weather WS-1001-WIFI OBSERVER Solar Powered Wireless WiFi Remote Monitoring Weather Station including wireless base station
1 - Mounting Hardware (TBD based on site placement)
1 - Memorial Plaque
We have already reached out to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and they are excitied to have access to this new teaching tool that will also be available on Weather Underground for use by all including their Safety and Security department.
If we exceed our goal, additional funds will go towards add-ons at a later time such as a camera or lightning detector.
All who donate any amount will be invited to a small dedication ceremony later this year and those who are members of TalkWeather will recieve special recognitition on the forum as well.
