Many of you know my pop and mom aka Perry/Que and Amy. The things they have gone through in the past two months is scary, sad, it’s just a lot. They do so much for people and have literally changed their lives over the past couple of years. I just want to see them have some peace of mind as they venture through this long battle moving forward.
Here is a snippet of the many things they have gone through over the past couple of months.
Perry aka Pop went from riding his electric unicycle, enjoying the outdoors, and helping the homeless community to walking into the emergency room and getting diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and multiple myeloma.
November 12, 2024 he was admitted to the hospital. During his hospital stay he was moved to several different units due to complications during his inpatient stay including the oncology floor, the ICU, IMC, and the Neuro critical care unit. He also started radiation but due to the emergent surgery he only received 1 session while being an inpatient.
Some of the complications included Sepsis and an Emergent surgery. On the evening of December 3rd he lost all functions from mid torso and down. They did an MRI very early December 4th, 2024 and seen that there was a tumor on his thoracic spine that was bleeding into his spinal column. This ended up compressing his spinal cord resulting in the deficits. They rushed him emergently to the operating room that morning and performed a Laminectony with tumor debulking.
He spent several days in the critical care unit and then went back to the oncology floor. They were not sure how much function would return. He was discharged from the hospital December 13th, 2024.
They transported him to an LTACH where he would begin physical therapy. He only spent 7 days there and was then transported to an acute rehabilitation hospital. He was still unable to walk and only able to stand with assistance for under a minute. While at the acute rehab he had 3 hours of physical and occupational therapy every day. He worked tirelessly day in and day out. After just over two weeks on January 6th he was discharged home.
On January 9th, even though his strength was improving his oncologist only wanted to begin with Radiation therapy, Immunotherapy and Xgeva. He did not want to put too much strain on his body at once as he was still healing. Pop started intense radiation January 13th, 2025 and had a session every day that entire week. By the grace of God he tolerated all treatments with minimal side effects. He will meet with the oncologist at the end of the month and hopefully add on the two chemotherapy infusions they have chosen for him.
He has put in extensive work and can now walk up to 90 feet at a time with a walker.
His wife aka momma/Amy will be his primary care taker over the next 12 plus weeks. They will work together to get him as strong as possible. She will be taking him to all of his doctor’s appointments, treatments, etc as well as assisting with daily living. She is having to take an unpaid leave due to the company she works for will not allow her to use her EIB. She has exhausted her PTO time during their first wedding anniversary this past September where they took a roadtrip. Her vacation bank was empty as of the end of last week.
Every donation will go towards
1. Medical bills (these have already started coming in) and treatment costs (which include immunotherapy, radiation therapy, monthly prescriptions which run $140 dollars every month and chemotherapy when started
2. Living expenses (groceries, rent, utilities, gas for traveling to and from appointments/treatments, etc).
