So many of you know my dad, John. He has spent his entire adult life in the service of others as an educator for 30 years, and more recently a mental health professional, providing therapy to so many who need it. 

About a month ago, we found out that the ongoing struggle my dad was having with abdominal pain, was actually cancer. Doctors found a high-grade liposarcoma just smaller than a tennis ball in his lower abdomen. 

He was fortunate enough to get surgery quickly and the cancer came out intact and has not spread. Unfortunately, as a result of my dad being a heart-attack survivor, the surgery was much more "violent" than the doctors anticipated and almost a month post-op my dad is still struggling to stand, walk, and simply take care of himself. This has placed a great burden on my mother, as she has been battling a tumor behind her eye herself. 

They have moved into my basement so that I can help ease the burdens of physical necessities, but as my dad has been unable to work, they are struggling with the day to day necessities. They are fortunate enough to have insurance, but not having income is placing a strain on them. 

Doctors anticipate my dad being able to recover enough to go back to work without pain in a "few months" with total recovery taking much longer. Until he can work and sit comfortably enough to counsel again, I am trying to ease their financial and emotional load with this campaign.
