Permanent gallery space for exhibitions and performance
Donation protected
Nasty Gallery is a not for profit female led initiative who’s ultimate aim is to provide a permanent and safe space for women in the arts.
“78 per cent of the galleries represent more men than women, while only 5 per cent represent an equal number of male and female artists. And beyond the statistics, women artists and curators face unique challenges, from the subjects they bring to light to the work they choose to present”- Tate Modern
Our intention is to bring exhibitions, performance, spoken word and debate via exciting and thought provoking events. We are currently unfunded, but on it. Our mission is to secure a permanent space. We need to raise £15k to get match funding in order to achieve our goal. We are currently raising what we can from running workshops and pop up events. All of the team volunteer their time and more often than not, their money, so, in order to help us to keep on keeping on and press forward with providing quality underrepresented women a spot to shine, we would be very grateful if you could support us by making a donation of any amount or by purchasing our merchandise. All profit goes into continuing our events and crucially, towards finding a permanent home.
How Nasty Gallery started
After Trump was elected for presidency in 2017, women artists and curators started an art exhibit staged as a visual protest. More than 700 female-identifying artists contributed works to the show, which was named after the slur that Trump called Clinton a “Nasty Woman” in the third presidential debate. It’s a powerful callback to the misogynistic messaging of Trump’s campaign, and a demonstration of solidarity among artists worldwide.
It was then that Nasty Women London was born, this world wide movement was a fundraiser for different charities supporting women worldwide.
Women are still fighting this battle now in 2024 with the recent win for Trump winning the presidential election a second time round. History that has repeated once again! This has formed Nasty Gallery to keep pushing for women's rights, and providing a space for unrepresented women in the arts, from graduates, to mothers trying to get back into the art scene and also women artists who are retired, we want to give a space for women to have a voice, to exhibit art and performance.
