This fundraising account is for Perla Santiago. She was a teacher at College of the Holy Spirit Tarlac for more than 20 years. She is a wonderful aunt, friend, listener etc. to so many people. But more importantly she is my mother and my source of strength.
August 11 , Al dropped my Mom Pearl and Dad Mel to the airport. They are on their way to CA to attend my Uncle Arting's memorial services. I did not get to see them leave for their early morning flight because I was at work. My mom Pearl texted that they were at the airport and will talk to me as soon as they get to CA. Uncle Arting's memorial service on the 15th of August went beautifully according to my mother. Since she was already in CA they went and visited some high-school friends. August 19 my mom texted me happy anniversary (Al and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary) and said they were having fun and that they'll be back to MO on the 21st. Few hours have passed I received a phone call from my Dad saying that Mom had a stroke. I was thinking that it's not possible since she was just texting me. Mom was rushed to the hospital. The doctors were able to administer TPA but the stroke was so massive that she needed a thrombectomy. She was then transferred to a bigger hospital for the thrombectomy. Mom and Dad both worked for Walmart but will not be eligible for insurance until October. My parents cannot avail of Medicaid here in CA since they are not residents of CA. The hospital's financial assistance only covers procedures but not doctor's fee. My Mom will need physical, occupational and speech therapy. She will also need another CT scan in two weeks after discharge to make sure the brain swelling and bleeding did not come back. Since they don't have insurance this will be all out of pocket. Per doctors' advice It is not safe for Mom to travel by plane to return back to MO until the brain swelling is gone. So she will be staying here in CA to recover and once stable enough she can fly back home to MO, I am humbly asking your assistance to help this wonderful teacher, loving grandma and amazing mother to come back to how she used to be.
