Periwinkle’s battle to full health

Donation protected
My Maine Coon Mango was sadly hit by a car and died in March. Since then I’ve tried desperately to keep her baby Periwinkle as an inside cat.

To my absolute dismay he managed to jump out of a top floor window on Sunday evening. Days passed and I’d started to accept he’d met the same fate as his darling mum.

By some miracle, he somehow managed to climb our 8ft fence on Wednesday morning and make his way back into the garden. I was elated. Unfortunately I soon spotted he was dragging his back legs and was struggling to stand.

An x-ray revealed he had broken his pelvis and also dislocated his tail. My poor baby was so broken but still managed to find his way home. I was told the outcome was going to depend on whether he could urinate by himself or not.

I brought him home that night doped up on the best painkillers going and hoped and hoped but nothing. He was readmitted the next day with the plan of more opioids and manual expression of his bladder with the help of bladder relaxant medications.

I received a terrible phone call that afternoon saying even with the medication and manual expression that they weren’t getting a drop of urine out. Prognosis- likely severe nerve damage which wasn’t going to get better. I was told to take him home for one last night to see if he’d urinate but this was really to say our goodbyes and i was to bring him back in the morning to be euthanised.

The next morning comes (today) and still no urine. We say our goodbyes, my 6 year old absolutely devastated and just before I put him in his carrier I put him in his original litter tray to see if he’d use it. By some miracle, HE DID! He emptied his entire bladder.

The vet was so shocked. We all really thought it was the end of the road for him. Which leads me to now.

He still isn’t out of the woods yet, we’re taking it day by day and so much could still go wrong. Since 8 this morning, he hasn’t urinated again yet but he’s so exhausted I’m trying to give him some time. The Vet told me not to get my hopes up but I’ll do anything in my power to get him there.

I am raising money to help any future costs for Periwinkle’s care. He unfortunately wasn’t insured and so far his bills have totalled £860. I’m a single mum and this is wiped me out, not to mention borrowing from family.

The next couple of days are crucial, but he’ll need to have his tail amputated as it’s completely dead. He is also likely to need long term pain management whilst his pelvis heals.

He needs a chance. He’s 13 months old - just a baby that deserves a full and happy life.

If you can give anything - even it’s a £1 that will make all the different in his long road back to recovery. Any money that isn’t used is going to donated to by local animal rescue charity that does absolutely fantastic work.
