Help Me Get to My Mother’s Memorial — 3 Weeks Away”
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Erik, and I’m reaching out during the most heartbreaking time of my life.
In February, my mother — my rock, my biggest inspiration, and my closest friend — was diagnosed with leukemia. We thought there would be more time. But just weeks after she entered the hospital, she was gone. I never even got to say goodbye.
I was at a job interview that day, still trying to recover after Hurricane Milton destroyed my career, my car, my home, and nearly everything I owned last October. I’ve lost so much already — but nothing could prepare me for this.
Her memorial service is in three weeks, and I’m desperate to be there, to stand among our family and friends and honor the incredible woman who raised me and taught me everything good that I know.
She instilled in me a love of service, and a belief in fighting for what’s right — which is why I followed her footsteps into local civic work and government. One of her favorite quotes was from Margaret Mead:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
I have always believed that too. And now, I’m humbly asking if a small, thoughtful, committed group of people could help me in this moment — to help me honor my mother’s life and say the goodbye I never got the chance to say.
Because of everything I’ve lost, and the fact that I still haven’t received the help FEMA promised after the hurricane, I simply cannot afford the airfare, rental car, and hotel costs on my own. I estimate the trip will cost about $2,000, and I need to raise it as soon as possible.
If you can help — even just a little — it would mean the world to me. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign so others might see it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for any kindness you can offer during this devastating time.
With all my heart,
Erik
