Peri's surgery and aftercare

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I'm Periwinkle or “Peri”. I’ve been told that I’m sweet natured, beautiful, clumsy and a big friendly giant! Oh, and I’m a rescue foster pup. I may not look it, but I’m predominantly Cane Corso, with a dash of German shepherd and a sprinkling of Dogue De Bordeaux.

Like my fellow rescue dogs, I have had a rough start to life and need some additional help to put me back in a position to best succeed for the rest of my doggie years and I need your help.

My story:
I was picked up as a stray in Enfield/Tottenham, on 15th February 2024, where they estimated me at 6months of age. After staying in the pound for a week, I went into a foster home, and within a few days, became very ill. Unfortunately, the first vet that saw me, overlooked the infestation of worms and other poorly symptoms. This led to me being taken to another vet for emergency surgery - my intestines erupted and it was suspected this was as a result of worms.

The vet worked all through the night - I nearly died, but thankfully, they saved me! When my first foster parents never came to collect me, a search for a safe recovery home started - I was just too poorly to go back into kennels. This was when my new family came into the picture.

On 9th March, I was collected by my new foster brother, Zeekie, and brought to my new home. I was snotty, skinny, severely underweight and very weak. My new family helped me regain almost a 1/3 of my current (ideal) body weight but they also noticed a limp.

Vet checks, X-rays and MRI scans and second opinions were sought. Unfortunately, due the poor hand at life I was dealt (possibly poor nutrition, genetics and who knows what else), I have dysplasia in both elbows that will eventually lead to complete lameness. Whilst I’m still young, I have a small opportunity of hope that if they operate now, they can help improve my quality of life.

The ask of you:
The cost of the surgery is in excess of £3.5k for both legs, and the post surgery recovery care over the 6-8week is a staggering but similar price.

As I’m not insured yet, my new foster family have been helping fund my costs (with some help from the charity). Whilst my family will continue to support me financially, any help additional help from friends and family, however small, would be amazing and greatly appreciated.

We have set the amount as lower than the total cost to ensure we are able to obtain the funds from the platform and make sure it gets used for my medical care.

If anyone would like to know more about me, please don’t hesitate to contact my foster family and me.
