Period Poverty - Phase 2

Zeshan Raja, CEO of ZR Consultants, has joined forces with City Retreat (Leicester) and PadMad, to distribute reusable sanitary ware and educational workshops to women and girls experiencing period poverty in Kenya, a public health crisis that is yet to be well addressed, largely due to stigma.

After successfully delivering 515 packs in Phase 1, we are now targeting to deliver a further 1,000 or more packs in Phase 2 (Reports of all past deliveries are available for any donors who would like to view them).

This project aims to address the challenges young women face in poorer societies, impacting their health, education and careers. After over a year of research, we finally met Madhvi Dalal, the founder of PadMad. She not only has developed a sustainable solution but also spends time educating women and men.

Please help us to make a difference in someone's life. You can help change the lives of young girls and women by generously denoting just £6.80 towards a PadMad Deluxe Pad Kit which will provide a minimum of 5 years of peace of mind. The £6.80 for the packs include:

  • Two night-time pads
  • Two day-time pads
  • One holder
  • Five liners
  • Educational workshops/sessions for both men and women on women’s
hygiene.
  • All items are Eco friendly and contain no toxins or BPA’s
  • Transportation and distribution.
·
Please find it in your heart to donate £6.50 towards this great cause.

We are passionate about the cause as period poverty devastates women worldwide, particularly in Kenya.

Here are some statistics which make this initiative very necessary:

  • 65% of females in Kenya cannot afford sanitary pads - resulting in a lack of Sanitary pads has led to an estimated one million girls missing school every month. Girls in Kenya will miss approximately four days of school each month, or on average 20% of the school year, because of their monthly period cycle.

  • 10% of fifteen-year-old girls in Kenya turn to prostitution (“Sex for sanitary pads”) to access sanitary pads.

  • Young girls and women use old clothes, paper, cotton, or wool pieces and share pads to manage their menstrual. This situation is worse for young girls as sharing pads is extremely dangerous – research shows that some 12 per cent of people living in the slums on the outskirts of Nairobi have HIV, compared to about 5 per cent of the general population.

As usual, all the videos, pictures and final reports of this project will be available to any donor upon request.
