Would you like to join me in making a difference with period poverty in Tanzania?

Period poverty in most African countries causes girls to miss out on significant amounts of education. They are also vulnerable to exploitation from predators, offering to buy sanitary products in exchange for sexual favours.

In February 2024, a team of 8 will be travelling from the UK and Poland to Tanga in Tanzania, where will be joining with the Kila Dada Initiative (KDI) in delivering period poverty packs to local high schools. Each pack costs the equivalent of £11 ($14) and can last up to 4 years.

The Kila Dada Initiative (KDI) was created in 2020 in response to the need for menstrual hygiene products during the pandemic. The dire conditions created by the pandemic made access to these products even more difficult, in places where it already was a challenge.

Through KDI, about 1,000 vulnerable girls and women have received a Days for Girls reusable menstrual kit pack! We use these distributions as an opportunity for menstrual health education.

KDI have successfully completed distributions in Kenya and Tanzania and are currently in the process of setting up a production workshop in Tanga, Tanzania.
