Announcing: Period Party! An absurdist comedy written and directed by Georgia Brogan, is in the midst of production! We're so excited to share this vibrant, messy family gathering with you all, but we need some help in doing so.
Synopsis
With the help of her family, Bee puts on a Period Party to celebrate the return of her period after a battle with anorexia. Mum's neurotic, Dad's embarrassing and Gran doesn't quite get it. Plus little sibling Lou is a wee bit scarred. While the vagina cake melts and the uterus pinata awaits a beating, Bee comes to terms with the messiness of family and womanhood.
Why We Need Your Support
Period Party has a significant ability to effect social change. It is a film that can and will help destigmatise eating disorders through its delicate combination of absurdist humour and poignancy.
For many, there is little education about eating disorder-related period loss and the impacts anorexia and other eating disorders have upon female reproduction. In my case, I lost my period for two years and didn't think much of it until (certain) medical professionals alerted me to how serious this was.
Period Party touches on the difficulty people afflicted with an ED can face when discussing the issue with those close to them. Anorexia, and other forms of EDs were not subjects my family were knowledgeable about, and many times, despite being well-intentioned, they unknowingly triggered me.
Period Party starts conversations, celebrates recovery and is both hilariously engaging and a powerful educational tool.
This short film is my baby, it is the product of my recovery, and I hope that we can work together to get this project completed.
