Performing to Prevail: Advocating for K-12 Arts Education

Hello! My name is Kyra Sydney Caldwell, and I am a proud junior at Emory University. I am beyond excited to announce that I am competing for the title of Miss Black and Gold for the Mu Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. As part of my journey, I am proudly championing a platform that is not only close to my heart but also connected to the national Alpha Phi Alpha program: Go to High School, Go to College.
My platform is called "Performing to Prevail", and it focuses on ensuring that students, especially in low-income areas, have access to performing arts programs that can unlock their fullest potential. These programs are not just about dance, music, or theater; they are about creating opportunities for students to develop essential skills such as discipline, creativity, teamwork, and confidence. Skills that will not only help them excel in school but will also provide them with the tools they need to succeed in life and, most importantly, make it to college.
The harsh reality is that many schools, especially in underfunded communities, lack the resources to provide these transformative programs. I believe that every student, regardless of their background, should have the chance to experience the power of the arts and the profound impact it can have on their future. These programs help students develop resilience, self-expression, and a sense of belonging which are qualities that are crucial for success both in the classroom and beyond.
With your support, I hope to raise the funds needed to bring Performing to Prevail to life. The money raised help ensure that students in underprivileged areas have access to the tools they need to thrive.
Every dollar counts and every share makes a difference. Together, we can create a brighter future for students who are ready to rise above the challenges they face. Your contribution will help countless young people develop the skills, confidence, and drive to achieve their dreams, reach higher education, and change the world for the better.
Please join me in making this vision a reality.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support. It means the world to me and to the students whose lives you will be touching through this initiative.
With love and gratitude,
