Hi! My name is Jenn, and I am Percy’s “meowmy”. Percy is 13 and has been in my life since he was about 6 months old. He is the light of my world!
For his entire life, he has had frequent vomiting, but he has always been otherwise healthy. About a year ago, he developed diarrhea for the first time. I took him to the vet and his exam and labs looked great, except for a slightly elevated liver enzyme. His vet confirmed what my research showed - it was likely IBD or lymphoma.
Unfortunately, the only way to confirm which of those it is is a very invasive and expensive biopsy. An ultrasound could help, but the initial consultation is over $400, which is not an option financially.
So we have been treating it as IBD and he’s done fairly well. His diarrhea stopped after a steroid shot, antibiotic, and month of probiotics. The vomiting decreased but never stopped. I tried a variety of expensive foods, eliminating proteins that I suspected triggered his symptoms.
Then his diarrhea came back. I took him in again, lab work again was good (same liver value elevated still, but lower than before) and physical exam good. He got another steroid shot and a prescription for a new food. The hydrolyzed protein food is $80/bag. The first bag only last him 3 weeks as he had been so hungry he ate significantly more than before. But he wasn’t vomiting!!!
Over the past month, he has gained almost a pound. He was 14lbs when he was younger, dropped to 11 a year ago, and was down to 8.5 a month ago. Now he’s up to 9.2. (Photo at the bottom is the week I took him to the vet most recently)
The problem is, I already live paycheck to paycheck. I don’t know how to afford the food, let alone repeat trips to the vet for steroid shots when his wears off. Or for daily steroids if that is the better option.
I’d love to get him the diagnostic ultrasound, but as long as he’s doing well with the food and steroids, I’ll be happy. Every donation will go directly towards his food (Royal Canin HP) and vet bills.
Since he has been on this food, not only has he gained weight and his vomiting down to normal cat range (oops, ate too fast - BLECH), but his eyes are more clear. And his tail is up in happy kitty tail mode. He’s such a happy, sweet boy.
Every dollar is appreciated more than words can express. Thank you <3
