Donation protected
This is our adoring, kind, and beloved Pepito. He is 3 going on 4 year old, Miniature Schnauzer. He's a very vibrant, peppy, energetic little dog. Pepito loves everybody and everyone. He loves to take care of the block and likes to meet all little kids, family and friends. He loves to go for drives and we take him to all the parks all over, there's not a stranger he doesn't get along with. He loves to be petted by everybody and everybody loves him.
Help Us Save Pepito’s Life
On April 22nd, our sweet dog Pepito went from happy and healthy to fighting for his life in a matter of hours. That morning, he was out for a car ride with Joseph—one of his favorite things. But when they came home, something was very wrong. Pepito couldn’t walk properly, kept trying to urinate but couldn’t, and started vomiting—over 20 times that day.
We rushed him to our local vet NorthGate Pet Clinic, where they discovered his bladder was dangerously swollen—three to four times its normal size. They sent us to the emergency vet, Animal Emergency Clinic in Bloomington, where we learned Pepito had two stones blocking his urethra. He needed surgery right away.
That night, Pepito endured a four-hour emergency surgery. During the procedure, they found his abdomen full of leaked urine from a tear in his bladder—his condition was even worse than they thought. If we hadn’t acted that night, he wouldn’t have survived.
But that was just the beginning.
The next day, while being monitored at our local vet, Pepito suddenly crashed. He went into shock, and we were told he might not make it. Our only hope was to rush him to the University of Illinois Emergency Veterinary Hospital. When we saw him in the ICU, he weakly stood up to greet us. That moment told us everything—we had to keep fighting for him.
Pepito has since endured another surgery, a catheter, a bladder port, and daily pain. We’ve been expressing his bladder with a syringe every four hours while doing everything we can to help him heal. But on May 10th, we found out he had a second tear—this time in his perineum. The leaking urine is burning and damaging his skin, and he cannot heal in this condition.
Now, we face one final, life-saving surgery. The vets believe Pepito is strong and full of spirit. They’re hopeful this operation—redirecting his urinary tract—will finally allow him to heal and live a full life again.
Pepito is more than just our dog—he’s our heart, our joy, and our fighter. We’ve already poured everything we have into saving him, and we’re asking for help to cover the costs of this next crucial surgery and ongoing care.
His next surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 12th. We’re praying, and we’re asking anyone who has loved a pet like family to please help us.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to saving Pepito’s life.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
