People's Emergency Fund

This is a people's emergency fund to raise money for our most vulnerable people and communities. The funds will be used to purchase basic survival goods (food, medicine, etc) and distribute those goods and money during the COVID-19 crisis to people *most* marginalized in this crisis, with the *least* access to other forms of aid.

The following people (and this list will grow and change according to need) will be making decisions about how to share resources equitably among all people and how to best get resources to their communities:

Courtney Allen
Elizabeth Capone-Henriquez
Crystal Cron
Samarali Daniels
Melissa Dunn
Phoenix Golden
Jesse Harvey
Sass Linneken
Alison Mann
Alivia Moore
Heritier Nosso
Whitney Parrish
Stacy Perez
Edier Ramirez
Ambureen Rana
Lokota Sanborn

Many other people who are accountable to their communities are being contacted as we write this to consider advising us. We will update their names as they give us permission to do so. Also, some people will choose to advise confidentially and we respect their choice.

In giving to this fund, I promise that, to the best of my ability:

- I will share information with poor people, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, immigrants, homeless people, queer and trans people, disabled people, people who speak languages other than English, and otherwise marginalized people who most need funds right now that this fund is a resource that may be available to them.

-I will not wait for the above people to come to me. I will actively use my knowledge and intuition and nonjudgmental, clear, respectful forms of communication to assess needs and humbly encourage all who need it to seek help. I will model giving and receiving help as a dignified survival practice.

- I understand as a person giving money that the best way to administer these funds may vary by community and context, and that quarantine, social isolation, and distancing may impact people's ability to apply for and receive funds. I trust the people administering the fund to be transparent and accountable and responsive to the needs of people on HOW they distribute goods and funds. That means the people in charge of the fund will make decisions that prioritize meeting those in need where they are at, literally and otherwise.

- As a non-essential worker, I will stay home for the public good, and especially for the elderly and those with weak immune systems, including possibly myself and the people in the place where I live.

- I understand that people will be paid and given goods according to what is most fair in the bigger, changing picture and not according to their rate of pay or size of household but rather, according to the relative needs and resources of the moment, and that amounts will shift as the needs of people and resources of government, nonprofits and companies shift. Low wage and poor people will get the same or more, not less, than higher wage or higher income people. People with less will get more.

- I trust the many people administering this fund to operate with transparency, accountability, and with attention to making sure that the most vulnerable among us are given money first. If I feel something is not being done well, I will lead with love, curiosity and direct communication. I will seek to understand and offer suggestions about how to do better. I will be open to the fact that everyone has the capacity to make and correct mistakes, and to acknowledge and apologize for mistakes. I know that to err is to be human. I understand that mistakes can cost lives. I will seek to minimize mistakes and help others minimizing their mistakes by connecting with them and learning together.

Only the people can save the people. We were made for this moment. All hands on deck. Love your neighbor as yourself.
