Ollie won!

Donazione protetta
‘We’ (as a family) write this post WITH the permission of our beautiful Oliver, in the hope that something good can come out of something so so horrendous. On the 2nd of May our lives turned upside down. We took Oliver to A&E as we weren’t getting answers from the GP. You know when you are taken to a side room with 3 consultants, they are about to deliver life changing news. ‘Oliver had a large mass on his lung which had collapsed’. He was blue lighted to GOSH. They operated on him immediately. After a week of waiting we were told every parents nightmare, that Ollie had cancer. We can never put into words the utter devastation and fright of receiving that news. We still can’t really talk about that day (or any of it to be honest). He was transferred to UCLH for his continued treatment. Ollie was in hospital for a month before he could come home. He started chemotherapy and steroids as soon as possible. He has had so many scans procedures, medication and emergency hospital stays that we have lost count….Ollie is and forever will be, our super hero. He was so strong through it all. NOT once complained, NOT once asked why me? took each day as it came and is a true inspiration. This journey would have been so much harder if it wasn’t for our loving family who helped us through the worst journey of our lives. Not only the practical help, with looking after and supporting Jess, but the emotional side, which must be so difficult when they are feeling the pain too. We love you all but know that our family love runs deep ❤️Also to our amazing friends and neighbours who have supported us, sent gifts, notes, helped with Jess and been just a phone call away. Even the WhatsApp message asking if we are ok, REALLY did help. Jess……, our beautiful Jess is so strong. We both felt like we had abandoned her with our continuous over night hospital stays and hospital visits. She told us to get a grip and that she’s fine she knows she hasn’t been neglected. She made this process so much easier just getting on with her life and understood with empathy. So proud of our baby girl. So if you managed to get read this far….after 6 hideous months, Ollie did it! He has finally rung the bell and is in remission. The best day of our lives! We are indebted to the NHS for saving Ollies life. Children’s oncology wards are SO underfunded! Most ‘cancer’ funds go to adults as children cancer is rarer we want to buy needed medical equipment &, Christmas presents for the oncology children at the hospitals that treated Ollie. Watford General treat around 30 children at any one time. UCLH around 50 children a week are receiving treatment. We will also be supporting other small lovely charities that helped Ollie. Supershoes, chemo duck and spread a smile (give them a google ). Maybe rather than buying that coffee you could stick the money on Ollies Go Fund me page! Anything will me much appreciated and WILL help other children (and their parents) who are fighting cancer. We will personally make a large contribution at the end of our fund raising. Hug your babies tight and always go with your gut instinct. I know we will from now on. Best wishes and health to you all. Lisa, Martin, Jess and Super Hero Ollie ❤️
