Why I'm Racing for Breath: Ironman for Lung Fibrosis
In 2021, my dad received the incredible gift of a double lung transplant — a moment that gave him a second chance at life. Two years earlier, he had been diagnosed with lung fibrosis, a progressive and life-limiting condition that left his lungs functioning at <30%. As he was on the transplant waiting list, our family leaned heavily on the support of healthcare professionals and the hope of organ donation.
Today, my dad is doing well — a testament to the power of modern medicine, the community of support that surrounded us, and the gift of organ donation.
I was in the middle of training for my first Ironman when we got the call that his transplant was happening. Now, as I prepare to take on Ironman Copenhagen on August 17, 2025, I’m dedicating this race to the work of the Irish Lung Fibrosis Association — and to everyone affected by this illness.
The Irish Lung Fibrosis Association (ILFA) — a charity that provides vital support, advocacy, education, and research for people living with lung fibrosis and their families.
Your contribution will help ILFA continue their incredible work and give other families the same hope and support that mine received. Thank you so much for supporting a cause that means the world to me.
