Piper is very unwell again so we are reaching out once more for your generosity to help Judy help Piper through this dire time. Yesterday Piper collapsed and was rushed to emergency with an extreme temperature. Although her temperature has come down she is still extremely ill and the vets are unable to give a definitive answer as to what is causing her symptoms. She has had blood tests which are not giving any clues as to what is the underlying issue. The next 48 hours are crucial and Piper needs to rest and stay hydrated. Besides rest, the main priority is to lose a few kilograms which will hopefully ease her symptoms and give Judy a chance to raise some funds to have some VERY expensive tests done at the specialist vet.
Piper may need the vet at any moment and unfortunately in our modern world, the doors will not open for those who can not pay. Each visit is extremely expensive and it would be wonderful if we could all rally together once again to give Piper the best possible chance of making it through this difficult time. If you are in any position to help, please do. We are so grateful for the amount we raised over six months ago ($2304), to help Piper. It was a huge amount. Together I hope we can raise that amount or more. Thank you.
Following is an update from Judy to explain what has happened in the last 24 hours.
How truly blessed Pip and I are to have so many wonderful people in our world. So many have reached out, helped Pip and I in our hours of need, truly have left us both gobsmacked at your generosity and kindness.
To each and everyone of you. Thank you in every way it can be said.
To the wonderful people/families who have helped but wish to remain anonymous – not sure how to ever repay your generosity. From hands on assistance, to air conditioning for Pip, to assistance with vet bills. You are all Penny’s from heaven.
To Kate Simon & her girls & Roberta Vlaar and her children. Thank you for always picking up the phone no matter the time of day or night and coming to Piper and my aid.
Piper collapsed yesterday afternoon at one her favourite parks on Boulder & Palmerston in St. James. The Higher Powers were with Pip and I yesterday. If not for Roberta being in the neighbourhood at that moment in time and coming so quickly I think we would have lost Piper right then and there.
Roberta and the kids rushed her to emergency while I called to tell them she was coming and then scootered over as fast as I could to meet them all.
As many of you know Pip has been struggling up and down since early February when she was lucky enough to have Kate Simon & her girls discover she was weeing dark red blood - Into emergency she went and almost every blood test, xray under the sun was done – she was diagnosed with a severe UTI and her back and neck injury was now in the arthritic stage. Pain meds and antibiotics saw her through, but her neck and back injury continued and continues to be an issue that is not getting under control with the various medication combinations of treatment cycles.
On February 19thshe was weeing bright red blood and back we were in the emergency room. That diagnosis put her back on antibiotics and a change in pain and anti-inflammatory medication. Pip through this all has still had that ‘wind through her ears” determination.
The last couple of weeks Piper has felt really bad. Getting her to eat even a tablespoon of food has been a big challenge. Some days she struggles to even get up – yet twice a day she perks up just enough to go to the scooter, ask for help to get on it and to sit up to ride & feel the wind blow through her ears.
Don’t tell me animals aren’t smart thinking and feeling beings. Pip knows times, days, feelings and is what some would consider an empath. Yesterday was no different. The one major difference was, I left Pip home alone in the air conditioning while I went to the Hillview Hub for the Friday Food Challenge. When I returned home. Pip appeared to have gotten herself in a situation where she could not get traction to get up and was very high anxiety, freaking out when I arrived back. I was able to get her up and on her feet, calm her down, she had a good drink of ice water and then she maneuvered herself to the door wanting to go out and get on scooter.
I knew she probably had to wee and thought the wind and ride would calm her. That I would scooter her up to one of her favourite parks. The moment I lifted Piper off the scooter and set her down on the grass – she took 3 steps forward and collapsed.
Piper was diagnosed with heat stroke. Her temperature was 41 degree. Even though she had been in air conditioning at home – the vet explained that when she was unable to get her traction and panicked at home – the panic and anxiety raised her heart rate and her body temperature.
Thank the Powers that be that Roberta was with Pip and I because I needed someone beside us that
· sees Piper regularly,
· had seen Piper in the morning and
· then when she picked her almost lifeless body up at the park be able to communicate what she had witnessed.
The vet was able to get Pipers body temperature down. Pip is home and resting but still feeling very unwell. The vet is stumped as well as to what is really happening with Pip. He suggested we may have to send her to a specialist if we can’t get many of her symptoms under control. As test results, xrays, etc aren’t coming back to show anything that explains what has and is happening with her symptoms.
Needless to say everyone. Piper will be my main priority so I apologize for commitments that I did not honour yesterday, or will not honour until Pip gets more stabilized. If I forget to touch base or cannot help I hope you all can forgive me.
Please pray for Pip. To all the children Pip loves - I am sure hand drawn cards put in our mailbox will brighten both our days.
(Judy will get the funds directly transferred to her personal account as the donations come in so she has money available for emergency vet visits. Although GoFundMe takes a percentage of funds raised we have to be grateful for platforms like these which enable us to rally as a community and help raise money fast for those who need it. Following is an update from Judy on Piper's diagnosis ongoing treatment plan).
