Dear Friends and Family,
Please accept our sincerest thanks for your generosity to us during this difficult time in our lives. You have been a gift from God to us on a daily basis. Your prayers, cards, letters, calls, well wishes, gift cards, and money have literally been our life-line for the past 7 months.
Yes, it has been 7 months since Peny entered the transplant wing of the hospital and 5 months since actual transplant. Every day brings a new challenge. From beginning to walk again, learning the medicine routine, trying to tolerate the medicines, dealing with the side-effects from the medicines, to today being back in the hospital for a persistent fever and diverticulitis. It has been an uphill battle. On the bright side, Peny’s incision is healing well and she is walking for 30-50 minutes three to four times a week on good weeks. Her weekly biopsies are now monthly and mid June will be her 10th! They continue to show no rejection of the heart, PRAISE GOD!
Ann has had little time for working other than caring for herself and Peny, but is managing to do a few hours a week. Peny cannot stay by herself and doesn’t have enough energy to go to the office for long periods of time so adjustments are still being made to hopefully get to the normal routine of work and home-life.
Peny would personally like to say; “I once read that a young gentleman, a soldier out for battle, was given a task and his friends asked ‘what if you die?’. He looked at them and said, 'it’s not if I live or die, but that I am obedient to the task before me.’ I pray we are not ones who run for the closet, but that we will finish the race well here on this earth. Thank you for helping us in this journey and may you all receive the kindness and full devotion you have displayed upon us many times fold!”

I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
This is Peny Farmakis, sister, friend, office manager, prayer warrior, and fervent servant of Christ. She has a disease called cardiomyopathy. Peny's mother also suffered from cardiomyopathy and succumbed to the disease. At 59 years old, Peny has led a healthy lifestyle and has never had any medical issues. Since being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy two and a half years ago, she has been doing everything in her power to keep her heart healthy. The disease has progressed and she will now have to remain in the hospital until a heart is available. Peny has had limited ability to do her job as office manager of her sister's medical practice for the past year as her health has declined.
Peny has $101,400 in medical bills prior to hospitalization. Her government insurance will, fortunately, pay for the transplant but her living expenses, insurance premium, and medications will be in excess of $5,000 per month. Peny is blessed to live with her sister Ann and only shares a small portion of rent, and utilities but they will have to move if Peny is unable to help for much longer. She has no savings and owns nothing as a result of fighting the disease on a limited budget. A heart transplant is considered a treatment and not a condition by Social Security Disability so there will be no monthly assistance from the government.
Peny needs our PRAYERS for a heart to be donated soon, healing, comfort, and peace as she waits. Also, please pray for Ann as she tries to keep her medical practice going on her own while caring for her sister.
Life with this disease has been devastating for Peny and Ann. Let's pull together and help with her expenses as she waits for a heart!
