Hi,
For those who don't know us, we are Samantha (Sam) and Peter and we find ourselves in need again of "village" support to help us manage the start of the calendar year until our safety net kicks in around March.
Peter Is currently in hospital with complications from Alzheimer's Disease and Sam has had 2 major falls in 2 months, the last being on Christmas morning. This is a result of the instability of her spine and bone disease progression. Her upper body no longer supports her lower body resulting in full time care necessary for mobility assistance, showering, dressing etc.
Her latest fall has caused both femurs to refracture, a fractured right wrist, fractured right rib, bone bruising, sacral fractured and other related issues from the fall.
Added Specialist appointments and the start of the year resetting our safety net, has once again caused a financial shortfall for us.
We only need a little help to see us through until April and alleviate some stress from our lives, if possible!
As family and friends know Sam's health has become a spiralling journey for 14 years since she was diagnosed with a rare bone disease, causing widespread pathological fractures throughout her body. She had no option but to retire from a rewarding career as an Executive Manager in a Financial institution. Her left femur pathologically broke in two in 2014 as she was walking to her bedroom door. We are so blessed her femoral artery wasn't severed. As a result, she was diagnosed with a rare bone disease believed to be caused by a mutant gene. Her bones become dense and her bone turnover is neglible, creating diseased bones and ultimately breaks, fractures and severe spinal stenosis.
Sam has had 20 surgeries in 14 years. She has a permanent stoma due to prolapses and her lumbar spine is now completely unstable, but inoperable due to the integrity of her bones. There is unfortunately no treatment or cure for this progressive disease.
Sam does have an NDIS package which helps us with carers and mobility equipment, medical consumables, allied health professionals etc and we are so grateful for this assistance, however her funding has just about been used as her full time caring needs have increaed. Her OT is submitting an urgent "change of circumstances " request but this can take 3 or more months to be assessed. In 2 months our current funding will run out and we face the horrible reality of no carers!
Any small assistance will go a long way for us to alleviate some pressure in our lives.
We are trying to get a high priority Level 4 My Aged Care package for Peter and even with support from our medical team, OT, Physio and hospital it is a 7 month wait! We just can't wait that long and we can't afford to fund the necessary care he needs for the progression of his disease.
Thank you so much for reading, caring, sharing and considering a donation.
It just means so much to us
Take care and God bless
Sam and Peter xx ❤️
