Help Penny's Amputation Care & Recovery

Donation protected
Hi all! My name is Francesca, and I'm in need of financial support to help fund the medical bills for my dog Penny. After being in an accident this weekend (details below) she needed an urgent surgery. I had to front the bills on two credit cards and am not able to pay them off on my own.

Your support to get us through this extremely difficult situation is so, so deeply appreciated. As a recent graduate, I am trying to build my career as a doula - an attendant at childbirths and in postpartum. Being in the seedling stage of my career, I have a very small practice and do not have the means to pay for Penny's current or future care. I am turning to family, friends and community for your help. Here's some information about what's been going on:

Short story:
Penny was hit by a motorcycle on the freeway after escaping from the house. She has a number of abrasions/staples on her body and went in for surgery on 11/29/21 to amputate one of her hind legs. She is an absolute trooper but in a lot of pain and needs an incredible amount of medication and recovery care to keep her comfortable and stable.

I will always be transparent with these bills and will continuously update this form with photos of bills/receipts for her care (current paid bills posted at bottom of this form).

Exact Bills as of 12/05/21: $10,263.51

Long story:
When I was out of town, Penny escaped from the yard at my friends house where she was being cared for. She has terrible separation anxiety, and after being alone for just one hour she somehow squeezed through the fence. She was seen sprinting through the streets of Ocean Beach, San Diego before she ended up running down the side of the freeway. A number of cars pulled over, and a family tried to coerce her into their car, but Penny got scared and bolted into the traffic. She was hit by a motorcycle - the driver, thank God, was completely okay and did not crash. I am still hoping to find him and check on him after having gone through this.

Another car saw her jumping in pain in the middle of the freeway and was able to park his truck next to her so that she could crawl underneath it. She otherwise would have been hit again by the oncoming traffic. The driver scooped her out from under his car and laid in the back of his truck with her while his friend drove them to the Humane Society, along with the motorcyclist who followed behind. This man truly saved her life and is sincerely a hero.

I am so overwhelmed and touched by all the amazing people who stopped to help her, especially the people who protected her and brought her in. I was able to track down all these individuals through a local Facebook page for lost pets. The out pour of love, support, and generosity has been extremely overwhelming and emotional. I am beyond grateful for these humans, as well as the doctors caring for her. We all love Penny girl so much and cant wait for her to be home again.
