Hi friends, I wanted to take a moment to share what’s transpired with my sweet penny girl.
What started out as a routine vet check up ended as an urgent trip to the emergency room for life threatening anemia levels. From the ER, Penny was admitted into the ICU to receive blood transfusions and to have a work up done of what could be causing this. Her work up has included multiple biopsies , even a bone marrow biopsy, blood tests and imaging studies. I have said yes to everything being done because she IS my everything. The costs will never stop me from getting her the best care necessary but it is all rising quickly and is ongoing and I just want to offer this platform if anyone wants to help in any way. I know I’d certainly appreciate it and Penny will too. I am praying for good answers soon and for improvement. One thing we all know about penny - she is quite the fighter ( for good and bad) and she is fighting so hard right now to get better.
as an update :
Penny held on to her transfusions on Thursday and was released from the icu after what seemed like the longest few days. I’m so happy to have her home. Her biopsies are negative for lymphoma and other cancers but do show an immune mediated anemia for which she was started on steroids. A few days later, another wild test came back positive for Ehrlichia- a tick borne illness she likely got while in Arizona this April. She was started right away on antibiotics and she's being monitored closely.
Unfortunately we had a setback on Saturday and penny’s blood levels dropped significantly. She was readmitted to the icu for more transfusions and I’m hoping I can have her home asap.
this weekend was very unexpected , I’m devastated that she’s hospitalized again and the cost of this visit was a huge hit.
Your donations have been beyond helpful. I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who has helped out.
thank you for all the love ,
lillian and penny ❤️
