Pennergy Update!

This past month has been quite the wild ride. We now understand that I have stage 4 metastatic melanoma and five tumors in my brain (sounds crazy, but it was caught very early).

I also have some small uptake (cancer) in my neck, arm, and abdomen. The cancer is not large in size, and the doctor actually mentioned that it is even hard to detect.

We’ve decided to only work with BC Cancer and will consider naturopathic therapy at a later date.

On March 5th, I started radiation treatment. I underwent five sessions and was pretty wiped out by the end. It was tough—very tired, and I couldn’t keep anything down.

After the radiation, there was a miscommunication regarding how quickly I should wean off the steroids prescribed for post-surgery swelling (I had been on them for about a month). I was back home in Darcy when I completely broke down and had to be rushed to Lions Gate emergency.

I was in the hospital for three days, but I’m now back on my feet in Darcy. This setback caused a delay in starting immunotherapy.

As a result of this incident, I’ve been prescribed DAB and TRAM in the short term to fight the cancer while I wean off the steroids.

The plan is still to move forward with the immunotherapy, though we don’t yet know when it will begin.

So far, there have been no side effects from my new prescription, and we’re full steam ahead!

Pennergy out ;)

A word from Penny,

So overwhelmed with the fabulous support from family & friends, I have the best community ever!

I feel great today! Excited to move forward with the BC Cancer Agency. They are my quarterback on this one.

The Pennergy is strong in all of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I got this. BTW, what do ya think of the new hairdo?

Update!

Penny was discharged from Lions Gate Hospital. She is now resting with family in Vancouver. This is a huge step in the right direction!

On Saturday, February 2nd, 2025, Penny was rushed to Lion's Gate hospital due to health complications, where a CT scan revealed 6 tumors on the right side of her brain. After further investigation, she required surgery to remove one of the tumors, which was successfully performed on Wednesday, February 5th.

Penny is now recuperating with her family in the hospital, regaining her brain function and the physical mobility of her left arm and leg. She remains in strong spirits with her sense of humour fully intact! Oncology is currently analyzing a sample from the removed tumor to determine the origin of the cancer, and the best treatment pathways.

Post-surgery, Penny and her husband Barney will need to stay in Vancouver and work with the BC Cancer Agency for intensive treatment and physiotherapy, as their remote community in D’arcy does not have the necessary medical services to support her.

Penny is a pillar of joy for those around her. Her unrelenting care and generosity show no bounds. Her potent 'Pennergy' is contagious. If you’ve met her, you’ve most likely had the pleasure of having one of her amazing home cooked meals, danced with her under the stars to Madonna or walked between her beautiful swaying dahlias and sunflowers.

We are reaching out to the community to raise funds to support Penny during her recovery and ongoing treatment for the next several months. The proceeds will go towards renting an accommodation in Vancouver for her and Barney & medical treatments. Updates to follow as we work with BC Cancer Agency.

Feel the Pennergy!
