Penny's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
For anyone that doesn't know, Penny is my Rottweiler puppy/best friend. As of this weekend, she will be 15 months old.
Before Thanksgiving, I began to notice subtle changes in Penny's behavior. She soon developed a limp in her rear left leg. I went and saw a vet and left the visit thinking this was a torn muscle or ligament in her kneecap. After about a week, she went from limping to completely not using this leg at all. I brought Penny back to the vet where she was sedated and had X-Rays taken. Unfortunately, we found out that Penny has Osteosarcoma, a very aggressive form of bone cancer. We have several options moving forward, but unfortunately, none of them have a good outcome. I decided to move forward with an amputation procedure. If I can raise the money I will also do chemotherapy treatments.
Even with the amputation and chemotherapy, Penny is not expected to survive for more than a year. This decision was not easy to make, and this has been the hardest news for me to grasp. My goal is to keep Penny as comfortable as possible for whatever time she has remaining.
Anyone who has ever met Penny knows that she is the sweetest dog in the world. Penny has this magical ability to immediately light up any room she enters. Life is not truly fair. Devastated is an understatement.
I am asking for support from friends and family during this time. I signed up for surgery not knowing how I would pay for it. The surgery is almost $6000 and the chemotherapy treatments are $700 a session, there would likely be 6 sessions.
Every dollar helps, and I can't thank everyone enough for their support.
