Penny Power - Her fight against Moyamoya Disease

My niece Penny is a smart, beautiful, spunky girl, above all else she is a fighter. I
am reaching out to all of you as a proud and loving Aunt to help her and her family during this time. Penny was diagnosed with a disease shortly before
Thanksgiving, called MoyaMoya. Moyamoya is a disease that causes our 8-year-old Penny to have strokes. To date, we know of at least two strokes that have occurred. My amazing brother and sister-in-law, Nathan
and Sarah, are tag teaming and working hard with Penny and all of the wonderful people at Children's DMC that are now as we call them part of "Team Penny", to
get her on the path to recovery. The recovery will be long and it will be costly,
even with great insurance. Any help is appreciated and will go towards helping
Nathan and Sarah cover the cost of the mounting medical bills and put their focus on Penny and her sisters, Beatrix and Claire. 



What Happened:

Before Thanksgiving, Penny was in and out of the hospital with multiple
symptoms that ultimately landed her at Children's DMC ER.  She was later found to have suffered multiple strokes due to a rare disease called Moyamoya. 
The strokes have left Penny with physical setbacks and the loss of her speech that will require lots of therapy.  The only way to prevent Penny from having more
strokes is Brain surgery on both sides of her head.  She is currently set to leave
the hospital in the mid to late January timeframe assuming she doesn't have any
setbacks.  She will then have outpatient physical, occupational, and speech
therapy for an undefined timeframe.  



What's the impact:


Even with good insurance the family will see a large out of pocket expense due to the amount of medical needs to get her past this.  Penny is also developmentally 
delayed with Down Syndrome and any delay in her growth towards her
independence will require more intervention to get her back on track. 




What's needed:


The family needs funds to pay for large out of pocket expenses that insurance will partially / won't cover for her recovery.   


What the funds will provide:


These funds will go towards out of pocket medical expenses for her current hospital stay and future outpatient therapy. If
all of the medical expenses have been paid, a trust will be set up for any of Penny's future needs with the additional money
given.
