- Hi. My name is Michelle, and this is our dog, Penny. Our 7-year-old white Shepherd, Penny. She'll be 8 in November. We have had our beautiful girl since she was just eleven months old. She is the first dog that my partner Jason and I got together. She's been with us through our ups and our downs. Through a move to a house where she got a yard to play in. Through our second dog Henry, who sadly passed away last year. They were buds. Albeit sometimes begrudging buds, she definitely felt his loss. She has always been such a fantastic, super smart, gorgeous, and energetic girl. She is our baby.
- Very recently, Penny started not feeling well. Initially, Jason and I just thought her tummy was upset. We thought she would get over it quickly if we watched her diet. But after a few days with no improvement, we took her to the vet. By this point, she had a loss of appetite (hugely strange for this otherwise very food-driven doggo) and increased thirst. The vet did tests and determined her liver was the issue. They referred us to Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Sorrento Valley, where they ran test after test and confirmed our worst nightmare. She had developed hepatic lymphoma, essentially, liver cancer. By this time, we have racked up an $11,000 bill for diagnostics and treatment. A cost we simply are not prepared for, but we couldn't just not know what was wrong and not know how to care for her.
- At this point, she may only have a few months, but in the meantime, we want nothing more than to give her the best life in the time that she has left, which means chemotherapy and other medicine to make her comfortable and happy. We are aware it's a large cost and don't expect the entire thing to be paid for us, but any donation toward the care that she's already received or will have to receive would be so helpful so that we may continue to care for her. She is a great light in our lives, and we love her so very, very much. I can assure you, that if you knew her, you would feel the same. Thank you.
