Every Penny for Kokoda
Sometimes a journey changes you.
Recently, Neil Dawson, Fin Martin and Andrew Johnson completed the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. Like so many before them, they expected to be challenged by the mountains, the history and the jungle. What they didn't expect was to be deeply moved by a visit to the small hospital in Kokoda Village.
This modest hospital provides healthcare to around 30,000 people every year, yet it struggles with a severe shortage of essential medicines, equipment and basic medical supplies. Witnessing these challenges firsthand left a lasting impression.
Inspired by the spirit of the Kokoda diggers, whose legacy of mateship, sacrifice and service continues to inspire all who walk the Track—they asked themselves a simple question:
"What can we do to help?"
Their answer?
Ride 200 kilometres on Penny Farthings this September!
Why Penny Farthings? Just like the foreign and harsh conditions our diggers faced on Kokoda, riding a machine with no gears, brakes and solid tyres is a fitting challenge to honour the heroes of that brutal campaign.
The group are preparing to step well outside their comfort zones and raise funds for a community that has given so much to generations of Australians.
They have established this GoFundMe campaign with one simple promise:
Every single dollar raised will go directly towards purchasing essential medicines and medical supplies for the Kokoda Hospital. Every contribution will be managed with complete transparency, ensuring your generosity reaches the people who need it most.
As part of the Our Spirit family, we couldn't be prouder of Neil, Finn and Andrew. Their willingness to turn inspiration into action embodies everything Kokoda stands for.
If the Kokoda story has ever touched your heart, if you believe in mateship, or if you simply believe everyone deserves access to basic healthcare, we'd love you to support this incredible initiative.
Together, we can make a genuine difference.
Because mateship doesn't end when you leave the Track.
It lives on in what you choose to do next.
