Dear friends, family, and fellow martial arts enthusiasts,
In cherished memory of the indomitable Keoshi Penny Johnson Guy, a woman whose journey from the tranquil town of Skokie, Illinois, to the pulsating streets of New York City embodied not just physical prowess but resilience, passion, and an unyielding determination. Rooted in the spirit of her mother Betty Johnson's fortitude, Penny pursued her dreams with an unwavering tenacity that ultimately brought her to the vibrant heart of the Big Apple, where she discovered a profound love for the artistry of Martial Arts.
Penny's life took a fateful turn when destiny intertwined her path with Chief Grand Master Rico Guy, my beloved father and her devoted husband. United by a shared dedication to the discipline of martial arts, their journey became the bedrock of a family and a profound connection to the art form itself. Tragically, in the year 2020, we faced the sudden departure of Chief Grand Master Rico Guy due to a heart attack, leaving an irreplaceable void resonating within the martial arts community.
Penny's commitment to family and the arts remained steadfast throughout the years. She devoted herself to studying and enriching the lives of those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the dojo and the community it served. Together with me, she envisioned the celebration of the monumental 50-year milestone of the US Budo Kai Kan dojo in August 2024, a testament to the enduring legacy of martial arts in the heart of Manhattan.
As our family navigates this profound loss, we turn to you, our dear friends, family, and the wider martial arts community, for support. The sudden passing of my mother, Keoshi Penny Johnson Guy, has come as a shock to our family and the martial arts community at large. In this challenging time, we seek your generosity to not only assist in covering funeral and memorial arrangements but also to help us continue the martial arts legacy envisioned by Penny and Rico.
Your contributions will play a pivotal role in honoring the legacies of both my mother and Chief Grand Master Rico Guy, ensuring that the flame they ignited within the US Budo Kai Kan dojo continues to burn brightly. Join hands with us in commemorating the profound martial arts legacy and the life of Penny, ensuring that the vision set forth by Rico and Penny continues to inspire and resonate with generations to come.
Thank you for being a part of this meaningful journey and for your kindness during this difficult time. Together, we can keep the spirit of Penny and Rico alive in the heart of the martial arts community.
