Penny & Dan Long Road to Recovery

Hi, My name is Shari King and I am starting a fundraiser for our Good Friends Penny Wills and her husband Dan. Penny has been taking beautiful photos of our dogs for years. From Agility shots, to beautiful portraits. Now Penny and her husband Dan could use our help.

Dan suffered a stroke this past weekend. Here is the latest info from Penny.

On Sunday morning hubby had a massive hemorrhagic stroke. He is currently in ICU at St Francis. Unfortunately, he is still bleeding into his brain and it is in a location they cannot operate on. It will have to stop on its own.

This has devastated me. The pups were all supposed to go to temporary homes today, but I just could not come home to an enpty house.

It is too soon for any cognative tests, he is having CT scans every 6 hours to check the bleeding. They gave him meds to help slow the bleeding, but it is a delicate balance because too much and he will form clots which can cause more strokes.

He is compltetly paralyized on his left side. He can speak in slow one word answers. He finally passed the swallow test after failing perviously. He is allowed to eat and drink on his own. (Huge bonus!)

We are looking at a very long recovery.

Things I have to start thinking about:

Remodeling the house to make it handicap accesible- bathroom, stairs in the house, ramp to the front door.

Possibly selling one or both cars to buy a handicap van with a wheelchair lift.

If anybody has any fundraising ideas I am all ears! I can’t imagine what our hoapital bill will be, and that does not include if he will go to a rehab facility.

I am trying to juggle stayi g with him in the hospital with taking care of the dogs and work. Work has been awesome, I am getting set up so I can work remotely and just go in once a day to drop stuff off/ pick up new stuff.
