Penn Raas has had quite a journey over the past few years. After many of our dancers graduated in 2013, we didn’t have enough dancers to compete and we barely had enough dancers to perform. The following year, we worked to build back our team and were able to compete at East Coast Dhamaka. Attending that competition rekindled our drive to perform better, stronger, and harder at more competitions this year. We have been working extremely hard to build a team that is motivated, dedicated, and passionate about garba-raas. This year, we have put in countless hours creating and learning choreography that is intricate, difficult, and blends together both traditional and modern garba-raas steps. After all this hard work, we feel like we deserve to take the stage, and we are inspired and ready to continue to grow as dancers and as a team.
To our team, these competitions are truly more than just competitions. They are a culmination of the hard work that has gone unnoticed for the past 2 years. They are a chance for us to show off how incredibly passionate we are about dance and the dance style we love to express. They are a chance for us to share the stage with fellow dancers and to regain a place in the community where friendships are built and art is showcased. They are a chance for our team to come full circle. We would love any help and support you could give us in reaching this goal. Thank You!
