Pennies from Heaven for our Penny
“I am with you. These four words are like a safety net, protecting you from falling into despair.” Zephaniah 3:17
Our sister Andrea Postiglione was 5 months pregnant with her second baby when she was diagnosed with a rare progesterone driven breast cancer. She underwent a single mastectomy during her pregnancy and will have a second mastectomy and reconstructive surgery soon. Andrea and her husband Lenny are a proud, hard working couple. As we all know, medical expenses, especially for cancer treatment mount rapidly. Andrea and Lenny would never ask for help financially. They will always find a way. That’s how they were raised.
While Andrea was battling breast cancer, her soon to be daughter Penelope Mary, was also experiencing health problems before she was born. Penny was born with Hirschsprung's disease, a blockage in her intestine that prevents her from being able to eliminate waste effectively. She also has a blockage in one of her kidneys that prevents urine from flowing into her ureter and bladder. Less than two percent of newborns are born with these two abnormalities in our country. Penny spent weeks in the NICU undergoing endless tests and procedures to try and uncover what was wrong. It was emotionally and physically painful to sit by and watch our precious niece go through this. Recently, she underwent a second surgery to have a bag placed outside of her body for up to a year to drain the urine from her kidney. Surgery to repair anything more is just too risky for our tiny Baby P. Now, Penny will undergo an additional surgery to repair the blockage in her intestine. Additionally, Andrea has had to resign from a job that she was truly dedicated to in order to care for herself and Penny.
They say that a mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path. This is our sister Andrea. Nothing will stand in her way - not even breast cancer, to ensure her baby girl Penelope Mary is well. She could not do this without the undying support and love she receives from Lenny.
Now it’s our turn.
Please consider supporting our best friend, our sister and her beautiful daughter while they navigate this most trying time in their lives.
“I am a God who heals. I heal broken bodies, broken minds, broken hearts, broken lives and broken relationships. My very presence has immense healing powers…Much healing is available to those whose lives are intimately interwoven with Mine. Ask and you will receive.” Psalm 103:3 Matthew 7:7
