Pennies for Penny x
Donation protected
Our precious little wolf, Penelope, is fighting very hard against an auto-immune disease that has her own red blood cells destroying themselves {Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA)}. This comes as a complete shock, as she literally just had her annual examination 3 weeks ago, and walked away with an absolutely clean bill of health (though she did plump up a little). That is the miserable nature of this disease, it can hit without rhyme nor reason, and is a real struggle to control in time to correct.
Penny has been hospitalized since last Friday as we await how she tolerates her blood transfusions and how her system adapts to the corrective medication. It goes: transfusion/wait 6 hours/bloodpanel/determine if there is level drop to essentially rinse and repeat, until the medication works to stop the destruction. This is a horrendous waiting game and is a very real financial war of attrition (as of admitting her Friday, my bill was already 7.5k....our pet insurance will kick in after the fact, but will only mitigate so much and the fancy black credit card will only go so far). Many owners are unable to commit to the financial ruin that the treatment for this disease can wreak. Penny is a significant part of our family and the house isn't remotely the same without her presence these last few days. Under no circumstance will we give up on her....financial hell or not.
So, that is the situation that brings me here....I'm disgusted that it is necessary, but if money is the determining factor in her survival and to be able to kick this thing, pride be damned. Any assistance that can be provided will help Penny greatly and be remembered.
Thanks for reading.
