Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit PENGUIN FOUNDATION GIFT FUND, and any donation will help make an impact.

I have organised a ride - the “Gippsland Ouest Classique” or West Gippsland Classic on the quiet country roads south of Loch in West Gippsland.

The ride was scheduled to occur on Sunday 24 November 2024 starting from 8:30am in Loch but due to inclement weather, did not proceed and has been rescheduled to Sunday 23 February 2025. Each rider is to donate to The Penguin Foundation.

I have been visiting the island for more than 50 years with my first memories as a pre-teen and have always been drawn to its rugged coastline, quiet beaches and beautiful flora and fauna. I will declare an interest here; apart from the Foundation working to preserve natural wildlife on Phillip Island, my best mate and business partner, Michael Gatehouse, was Chairman of the Foundation when he passed away tragically and suddenly in September 2011. In 2021, in the 10th year after he passed away, this event raised over $11,000 for the Foundation in his honour. It is now over 13 years since his passing but his legacy continues and I thought this would be a meaningful way of continuing to honour the work that was important to him.

Prior to being appointed Chairman of the Foundation, Michael was a Board Member of Nature Parks. He also established the Ventnor West Coast Action Group which was instrumental in protecting natural habitat for short-tailed shearwaters and hooded plovers from overdevelopment in the Ventnor area. Michael was passionate about the natural environment.
