Penelope's Trauma Surgery
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
*Update: Penelope went to VCA to meet with a soft tissue specialist for a consultation for her mucus seal surgery. The consultation went a million times better than we’d hoped. The specialist stated that in some rare cases mucoceles heal on their own and he believed that Penelope’s has healed. She has been taken off the antibiotics. We are watching her to make sure the swelling or drooling doesn’t return with her being off the antibiotics. As long as those symptoms do not return, she does not have to have the surgery!
Thank you so much to everyone who donated in support of us. Penelope had surgery at our vet on 5th to diagnosis her mococele and drain it. The money raised is going to paying for that surgery and her medications since. We deeply appreciate everyone’s love and support

First, I want to start this with Penelope is okay right now. She just needs a very expensive, specialist surgery to help her breathe....
On December 3rd, Penelope suffered a trauma at the paws of her new puppy friend. Penelope's puppy friend hit Penelope in the throat injuring her salivary gland. This injury caused Penelope's throat to swell up and her to salivate none stop.
Penelope was rushed to the vet on December 4th because she lost control of her muscles and bladder. She was unable to move her head up or down. She had to be taken to the back of the vet to be given oxygen. She refused to let anyone look in her mouth. She had to be sedated on the 5th to explore what was causing her symptoms.
Penelope's vet was able to drain the excess fluid in her jaw with hopes to avoid a future surgery. She was given antibiotics and steroids as well to help the odds of avoiding the surgery. Penelope roped her Mommy into staying home from work for a week since she was having a rough recovery. She struggled with walking, eating, sleeping, moving her head, drinking water, feeling nauseous, controlling her bladder, and not bleeding all over the house.
After 4 days, she started to return to her happy Penny self.
However, after the vet evaluated her on December 15th, he determined Penelope needs the surgery as her throat is still swollen.
Penelope needs a mucus seal surgery, which is as expensive as it sounds. Rough estimate is $7,000. To top it all off, Penelope's medical emergency happened at the worst possible time as it was the same week the car needed a few thousand dollars in repairs. Given the multiple emergencies bills and Penelope working less right now, Penelope is asking Santa for donations for Christmas. She also appreciates all the positive thoughts from our friends ❤️
