As many of you know - Penelope was found in the parking lot of Sushi Iwa Clayton in January 2023. Paul and I rushed in to rescue her and she has quickly become a treasured part of our family. She is the sweetest thing and deserves health and happiness in her Golden Years! At the time that we rescued her the vet told us she has a Grade 4 or 5 (out of 6) heart murmur. She also has a very large tumor in her abdomen and several others on almost all of her mammary glands. Due to the heart murmur it was unclear if she would be able to undergo surgery to have the tumor removed, and because the tumor did not seem to bother her we decided to hold off on any further testing and observe her. Since then the tumor has been growing rapidly. We feel that it’s now imperative to remove this tumor (and some of the others) before it gets any bigger or causes her harm. We have already taken her to a specialty hospital to meet with the surgeon and assess if she’s a candidate for the surgery. They determined that they can likely remove the tumors and spay her as long as her heart can handle it. On June 9 we went to the cardiology specialist for testing to determine if her heart is strong enough. Thankfully the cardiologist determined that she is cleared to proceed! The estimate for the cardiology visit and the surgery is $7000 - which is likely why she was dumped in the parking lot. We never ask for anything and are always willing to give freely of our time and money whenever possible. However in this instance we are humbly asking for our community to help us help this sweet creature and give her the Golden Years that she deserves. We have already spent ~$1500 on her vet visits since January and although we accept the financial responsibility to see this through - any help you feel compelled to give will be immensely appreciated!
