With the official cancellation of Scarborough Faire and no end in sight for the continuation of any faires or cons, Pendragon Costumes, like every other booth and performer out there, faces a dim and challenging 2020. There are government assistant programs in place, yes, and if our situation were better to begin with, we may not have to make this plea for your help. Last year, I was forced to file for bankruptcy due to a malicious lawsuit filed against me by my ex-husband. Even though the charges were, at best, misrepresented, there was no way I could fight them because I could not afford the legal fees. Now, with the bankruptcy firmly in place, I have a ridiculously high bankruptcy payment or I face losing my home (which may end up being an eventuality anyway). Worse than that, because of the bankruptcy laws, I am not allowed to take out any loans, which includes all the new SBA assistance loans everyone keeps sharing with me trying to help.
In addition, last year during one of our major shows, we were told we had to completely rebuild our booth or we would be forced to move or leave the show. We contracted with a local builder and agreed to pay him $19000, of which we have paid him half. We were supposed to resume payments to him when Scarborough started it's season, which was supposed to be tomorrow. And, back on the subject of losing our home, we have a $4000 property tax payment due on Monday which, our lawyer says, not paying will constitute a debt and violate the bankruptcy. So I am turning to you. I know it's hard for everyone. I know it's scary for everyone. I HATE having to do this. I have turned my business into a mask making frenzy and can't even work on the costuming that might help pay some bills. I have had to let all my employees go and I am here alone; washing, cutting and sewing hundreds of masks for people putting themselves at risk every day. I am not asking for this money for myself. I am asking to be able to pay a person who has done hard work and there was no way to know this situation would happen. I am asking for this money because my children need a place to live. I am asking for this money because, frankly, I'm scared nothing I do personally will be enough this time. Any amount will help. The great thing about crowdfunding is you don't have to give a lot: just a lot of people giving a little helps so much. Thank you. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
