Pender County Cooks

Hi,
  Thank you for your interest in Pender County Cooks! First off,  let me say I am definitely not a professional chef. I feel I should stress that. However-I do know the benefits of home cooking and there are many.

So what do we do?

Pender County Cooks provides resources and supportive opportunities to cook healthy, homemade meals. In our cooking groups, participants follow a basic recipe to prepare an oven-ready meal for their home. They are simply given the experience to learn how to cook with each other and the satisfaction of sharing with their loved ones.

To many families, cooking does not seem easy. In fact, today we don't even need to know how to cook! We can actually buy every meal.  And a lot of times it's easier and sometimes cheaper to do so. However we all know it is not always the healthiest. Furthermore, looking ahead, what happens when we no longer know how to cook?  Cooking is culture, memories and tradition! Who are we without it? It is a skill that is diminishing as we resource out to the food industry. 

Pender County Cooks wants to change this trend.  We want to show our participants that cooking really does matter and they can do it AND even enjoy it! 

Thanks to our partnership with Communities In Schools of Cape Fear, Pender County Cooks has had some wonderful opportunities! I am so inspired by the CIS program. We have a common goal of promoting wholistic and independent life skills. This partnership has opened the doors to the perfect setting for our mission. Together we have been hosting family cooking groups through their after-school program. I am so impressed with the kids' eagerness to learn and get involved. It has been an awesome experience.
