Steve's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Saturday February 23rd, 2019 Steve Ewing suffered an ischemic stroke to the right side of his brain. This has impaired his ability to use his left side. Steve did not arrive to the hospital until the next day February 24th. He remained in the hospital until he was released Friday March 1st to Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital for some intense therapy to try and recover use of his left side.
Unfortunately, at the time of the stroke Steve wasn’t carrying health insurance. He should be at the acute care center for therapy for 2-3 weeks. We will know more about what he will need for care after the rehab facility when we see how much function he regains and whether he requires a skilled care facility, home health care 24/7 or, hopefully, just part time.
Currently, it is looking unlikely that he will be able to get back to his job anytime soon with the physical demands of construction work. Less physically demanding jobs may be possible in the future based on his progress in physical rehab. As of now the family is trying to get him focused on recovery and getting back to where he can manage basic functions of daily life on his own strength. We’ve applied for disability and Medicaid for him but that’s a process and can take several months to get processed and approved.
Several friends and family members have asked if there was a Go Fund Me or bank account set up for donations to help with Steve’s care. We truly appreciate everyones generosity, well wishes, and continued prayers for Steve.
We want to be sure and not overwhelm Steve with visitors at Meadowbrook so that he gets his rest after his therapy as it wears him out and rest is needed for his recovery. He will be doing 1.5 hours each of physical and occupational therapy 5-6 days a week starting tomorrow (Monday March 4th).
We will try to post updates to this account and his social media accounts as they come.
THANK YOU ALL!!!
God Bless,
Rachel Finholm and Chris Ewing (daughter and son)
