I come before you to appeal for funding for corrective surgery for Tadiwa Mushambadzi, a 15-year-old student at Nyangani High School.

On 8 November 2024, while en route to a school trip, the Nyangani High School bus was involved in a fatal accident that tragically claimed the life of one student and left 19 others with serious injuries. As a result of the accident, Tadiwa’s pelvis was shattered, leaving her bedridden and in constant pain. Due to the severity of her injuries, she has been unable to return to school and continue her education with her peers.

With the support of her parents and Nyangani High School authorities, Tadiwa has consulted with various orthopedic surgeons and has been quoted a combined fee of $4,800 for corrective osteotomy pelvis and ORIF pelvic surgeries. This is an overwhelming amount, far beyond the means of her parents, who are both currently unemployed. Before Tadiwa’s accident, her mother worked as a vendor, but she has since become Tadiwa’s full-time carer and is unable to earn an income.

This is why I am reaching out to you, pleading that we come together as a community to support this young girl so she can regain her life.
