Peg's Transition to a Hand Controlled Vehicle
Donation protected
Hello,
This past month, my current driving was professionally evaluated. I was deemed unable to safely drive with my feet. As an alternative, I am eligible for HAND CONTROLS in my car! Yipee!
However...the process is expensive and I am asking for financial support with the necessary driving lessons.
The cost of lessons is $150/hour, and the instructor estimated an average of 6 training hours at least. I am anticipating around 10 lessons ($1500). After I pass the driving exam, the installation will cost between $2500-$4000. I am grateful to share that the MS Society will be paying the full cost of installation!
I want to begin lessons as soon as possible. I have recently bought a new car which I cannot drive until my transition to hand controls is complete. Your support in this campaign will help me maintain my autonomy and commitment to a joyful, connected life while living with MS.
Each morning I wake up feeling grateful for so many things--especially for all that I can do. I've always told my daughters, that when you have challenges in life, it always "could be worse."
That's how I look at things.
So using hand controls in my car is my next challenge--a new thing to learn. Once done, it will enable me to continue doing all that I love to do. I am thankful for so many things in life and I will be so thankful for your support!
A note from Peg's family:
For those of you who don't know Peg, she lives with Multiple Sclerosis and manages her changing symptoms on a daily basis. Despite the setbacks of the disease, she persists through life with a positive outlook and brings joy into many folks' lives. She enriches her life with a variety activities, and she is actively involved in these community circles, including her local Unitarian church, the YMCA (swimming), Pennsylvania Center for Adaptive Sports (kayaking. biking, and rowing adapted for disabled folks), the Irish Center in Philadelphia (fiddling), MS support groups, and even more! Peg is an amazing woman who lives by her passions and finds joy in connecting with others who share her interests. We are grateful for anything and everything given.
