For those of you who know my mom, you know she would never ask for anything like this herself. However, her situation is urgent and I really need your help.
Most of you know the story about how my mom has been suffering with her heart health over the past few years. Surgeries and surgeries and more surgeries have resulted in countless infections and has made her situation harder and more frustrating as we try and figure out the new way she's going to go about her life.
During her cardiac episodes, mom would be oxygen dependent to keep her blood oxygen levels to a healthy level. Usually, when her heart healed, she'd be able to take off the oxygen unless she was having a really bad day. However, after this last surgery, they've now told us her heart function is going to stay in the 30% range and she's going to be completely oxygen dependent. Furthermore, her insurance has now refused to cover the oxygen tanks she needs to be able to go outside for errands or a basic doctors appointment - they're refusing to cover it until they get a prescription from a pulmonologist that she can't see until the end of September.
What I'm raising money for is a portable oxygen concentrator so that mom can move around on her good days and get some fresh air. This device would allow her to carry oxygen on her back and run on batteries instead of hauling tanks everywhere and wondering when the oxygen would run out (and who likes rolling those huge tanks around anyway??). Among all the practical reasons to have this portable oxygen, it would also allow her to do one of her favorite things - go sit in the car by the beach and watch/listen to the waves in Morro Bay (which we've always considered to be a sort of "mental health" day when we've gone up together). I'm asking for you to give whatever you can to make this possible for my mom. This machine (Inogen One G3) will make these kinds of trips possible as well as trips to the grocery store or a doctors appointment or to come and visit her new grand baby who will be living about two hours from her.
This may sound kind of like a "convenience" item instead of a need to some of you who don't know my mom/her situation and if you need more information, please message me ([email redacted]) and I would be more than happy to explain why we so desperately need a device like this.
