Hi my name is Gina Bates, I am Peg‘s granddaughter. Today I am reaching out on behalf of my grandmother (and grandfather) for support during this difficult time. Anyone who knows my grandparents knows that spending time with family is probably their favorite things. This past weekend they made the long drive from their home town in New York to Massachusetts to spend time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. I am devastated to say that my grandma suffered a stroke in the middle of the night on August 15th. After a brief evaluation it was recommended that she be rushed to Boston to undergo surgery. This has left her at a hospital eight hours away from home and my grandpa staying at a nearby hotel anytime he is not permitted to stay by her bedside. My grandma will eventually be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility that is in western Massachusetts. Anybody that knows my grandparents know that they have selflessly given to everybody else their entire lives. My grandma is the one who would always remember a birthday, make sure youre fed if you stopped by, and always give you an extra long hug before you go- an angel that walks on earth! While this situation is very difficult, it becomes even more challenging as they are 8 hours away from home and we are unsure when a return to NY will be possible. The last thing that we want her to be worried about as she gets stronger is how to pay for the medical expenses. While they are too proud to ask for help, we know they deserve help! Please consider even the smallest donation to eliminate some of the stress for my grandparents (Peg and Roderick) as they work together to recover from this life changing event. Thank you!
